Major Incident Medical Management and Support –
Hospital Version

The Hospital Major Incident Medical Management and Support (HMIMMS) is a leading 2 day training course designed for senior hospital staff that may be called upon to plan or manage a major emergency / incident within their hospital. The course addresses practical issues using table top exercises, lectures and discussion involving members of the hospital’s Major Incident Group. As the only international standard in major incident medical management, the course is taught and the principles are practiced throughout the world.

Our HMIMMS courses are led by Mr. Stephen Groves O.B.E. who is the National Head of Emergency Preparedness Resilience and Response (EPRR) for NHS England. Stephen is involved in tier one (ministerial level) and cross government exercises throughout England. He is supported by Irish based Consultants in Emergency Medicine and experienced operational staff from the Irish emergency services, CPD/CEU credits available for all courses. The course is accredited by the Advanced Life Support Group Manchester (ALSG).

Eligibility

HMIMMS is not primarily a clinical course and is useful for anyone who may be involved in the planning, management and implementation of a Major Incident Plan from a hospital perspective.

Candidates who have taken the course include Clinical Directors, Consultants in Emergency Medicine, Clinical Leads in Medicine, Surgery, Anaesthetics, Directors and Assistant Directors of Nursing, Senior Emergency Department Staff, Emergency Planning Officers, Heads of Operational Services and Bed Management.

Duration

✅ The online VLE: takes approximately 4 hours.
✅ The Face -to-Face element takes 2 Days (16 hours)

Criteria for Successful Completion

✅ Completion of the pre-course Online VLE.
✅ Actively participate in, practice, and complete all skills and learning stations.
✅ Score a minimum grade (80% or higher) on the final Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) paper.

Certification

Participants, who successfully complete the course, including the MCQ, will receive an ALSG HMIMMS Certificate, valid for 4 years.

Gary Hardacre QAM, Head of Risk and Resilience in Scotland. Gary was awarded the Queen’s Ambulance Service Medal in 2013. Stephen and Gary are supported by an English and Irish faculty of Consultants, Nurses and Advanced Paramedics who are regarded as experts in their field and have a proven ability to teach.

Online Component

There is a pre-course compulsory ALSG VLE online MCQ, if you arrive for the face to face component of the course WITHOUT completing your VLE your options are:

✅ Go home. (no HMIMMS cert, no observer’s cert, no CPD/CEU credits. You will get a receipt of payment but not successful completion)

✅ Stay and observe. (no HMIMMS cert. You will get an observer’s cert and CPD/CEU credits only if you stay for the full 2 days. You will get a receipt of payment but not successful completion)

In neither case will you get a refund of your fees. You may complete the VLE at a later date and use it against another HMIMMS course. Code Blue will discount the cost of the VLE from your next full HMIMMS course fee. We cannot guarantee that another training site will do the same.

CPD/CEU Credits

All Codeblue courses are eligible for CPD/CEU points. The exact number of points you can claim depends on what your occupation/speciality is.

This course is eligible for up to 12 hours of face-to-face CPD/CEU’s and 4 hours of online CPD/CEU’s.
